Christmas Eve Commentary

Breakfast time comments from Andrew

"Merry Christmas Eve, Peter!"
"Yeah!"

Andrew: "Is it the most wonderful time of the year?"
Jim: "I don't know, is it?"
Andrew: "Yes, we have some wonderful times this year!"

a REALLY special drink

We went out to eat tonight. Part of the kids meals included a beverage, or as my kids call them "special drinks". After determining the main course, we inquired as to what else the boys wanted.

Me: "What do you want to go with your special drink? Apples?"

Peter: "Um...special drink. Beer."

boys, girls and honey...

Jim & I were discussing 'male' and 'female' the other day. (I can't remember why...maybe the stray cat that wandered into our backyard).

Andrew: "female?" - as if he'd just heard a funny word
Jim: "Yes, female. Mommy is a female, and you, me and Peter are male."
Andrew: "She's not a female!" - indignantly
Jim: "She's not?! Then what is she?"
Andrew: "She's honey!"

Well, how silly of us to think otherwise!

Peter's Snuggie

Peter wrapped himself up in his blankie today. He came over to me with it over his head & torso with a big grin on his face saying 'snuggie, snuggie'.

I think he's been watching too many of those commercials...

tiny baby Jesus

We gave the boys their belated St. Nick's Day gift (we forgot to give it to them on the actual day) - a Playmobil Nativity Set.

They've played with it for HOURS today - mostly without fighting. Andrew claimed the Holy Family and the 3 Wise Men, including their camel. Peter got the angel, the shepherd, the 2 sheep (mommy & baby), the donkey and the ox (or cow, as Peter calls it). Sort of an uneven division, but they don't mind, so I'm not going to step in to change it.

Andrew decided the 3 wise men are having an argument. When Jim pointed out that he didn't think the 3 wise men argued, Andrew replied, "Yes they are. They're fighting!" and promptly added sound effects to prove his point. Fortunately, by the following day, the infighting seemed to have stopped.

Andrew has also decided to sing his own Jesus songs. Something to the tune of 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Stars' or "Where is Thumbkin' but the words baby Jesus are repeated over & over again...and tiny baby Playmobil Jesus dances around and goes back and forth between Mary's lap and the manger...or up in the sky on the highest level of the Eiffel Tower lamp on the same table.

Peter, our ever creative one, is taking the angel for rides in his 'snort' - which is really his noisy 'telephone truck' with a bucket to lift someone up really high. I guess that's one way to get the angel up into the sky since it's wings don't seem to be working...

1st Christmas Parade

We took the boys to a small, nearby town tonight for their annual Christmas parade. Our first ever (I don't particularly care for them...but oh well.).

Despite the cold temps (yes, those of you up north, it really WAS cold...like the 30s), the boys did alright. Peter's hands were rather cold, but overall they had fun.

We stood on the sidewalk right near the beginning of the parade. And then the candy started falling - when all was said and done, I think we collected the same amount, if not more, than what they got at Halloween. Aside from the candy, we got 2 glow-necklaces, a bottle of hand sanitizer and multiple invites to the local protestant churches... the glow-necklaces were a hit!

During the parade, Andrew said the following:
"This is INSANE!" (gathering huge amounts of candy from the sidewalk)
"They must think it's Halloween in December!"

Afterwards, we walked to the rec center for some hot chocolate & cookies, made jingle-bell necklaces (something I am NOW regretting, a day later), and enjoyed the sounds of a bell choir before heading home.

On the way home, from the back seat, warmed up by hot chocolate, ringing an jingle bell and waving his glow stick back & forth, Andrew said, "That was the best parade, EVER".

Nevermind that we'd never been to one before! ;)

December Fun

We had a small gathering with friends in anticipation of Christmas! We all had a great time - especially the kids!

yep - he's my kid...

Andrew and I were watching a video on how to make some chocolate cookies. He got more excited about the 4 oz. of melted chocolate being poured into the batter than I did!

ha! Yep - definitely my kid!
