Many Mary's

Andrew was trying to read the "church book" left in the car by Peter. It was about Our Lady of Fatima.

They came to a page with a picture of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on it and Andrew said, "Look. there's Mary!"

Peter argues, "No! That's not Mary!"

Andrew explains, "Yes, it IS Mary. She just has lots of different names and wears lots of different colors. She has even more names than Jesus does, I think."

He then went on to give a few examples of Mary's names and Jesus' names.
Good to know he's paying attention!

Hey God, Are You there...?

Andrew initiated this conversation with me this morning.

"This morning, when I waked up, I made the sign of the cross, and said 3 Hail Mary's just like Father said at mass, and then a Our Father and a Glory Be. But, when I was saying the prayers, I waked up Peter."

"Well, you could just say the prayers in your head. You don't have to say them out loud."

"But...I just want to make sure God hears me."

Don't worry, honey...I think he hears you just fine.

nicknames

Uncle Mike, to Andrew: "Can I call you 'drew'?"

Andrew: "No!"

"Wait...what is a 'drew' anyways?"

Cowboy Jim?

The boys were helping me clean the Master bedroom closet, when they came upon Jim's old pair of cowboy boots. The following commentary was hysterical!

"Mom! Pop-pop has BOOTS?!"

"Pop-pop was a COWBOY?!"

"When was Pop-pop a cowboy?!"

and, my personal favorite:

"When Pop-pop wears his boots, does he turn into a cowboy?"

Andrew: "Um...about 45 years."

the 'bad bill'

Andrew went to get the mail the other day. He came back with 2 magazines, an envelope and a flyer or 2 of 'junk mail'. He handed me the envelope (from the electric company) with a concerned look on his face and said, "Oh no! We got a 'bad bill'!" LOL! Apparently, we need to tone down the 'I hate bills' talks...

Kids don't cook

Andrew's birthday was last week. Grandma called to wish him 'happy birthday' and in the course of the conversation asked him what special things he was going to do. He volunteered that he would get to have a 'special pineapple dinner' (i.e. - frozen Wanchai Ferry sweet & sour chicken) at home. Grandma asked if he would get to help cook it.

Andrew responded, in near disbelief, as if that was the most ridiculous thing he'd every heard, "No! I'm just a kid! I can't cook my own dinner!"

Andrew's advice

Today was a snow day for most of the city - if not the country.
But, Jim still had to go to work.

Before he left, Andrew offered this advice: "Don't get your car stuck in the snow, okay?"

You say...., I say...

Or "how to trick your brother with synonyms"

Andrew: "Peter, you want to play police?"
Peter: "NO!!"
Andrew: "Okay, then do you want to play cop?"
Peter: "OKAY!"
Andrew: "cuz cop is another word for police."

Andrew, on Abraham's journey

We were discussing the (Bible) story of Abraham and the long journey he took to the 'promised land'.
I asked Andrew, "How did Abraham know which way to go? Did he have directions?"

Andrew replied, "Well, I know he didn't have a GPS...only WE have that!"

LOL!

(Later, Jim said Abraham DID have GPS: a "God Positioning System"...probably much more reliable than the TomTom we have...).

good day, bad day

Proud parent moment of the day:
Peter, while choosing a book for bedtime story time: "Does it have a medal on it?" (referencing Caldecotts)

Embarrassing moment of the day:
Andrew, while in public, in a loud voice: "Wow! That guys FAT like Gusteau!" (fat mouse from Ratatouille)

sibling review

Andrew is reciting his (school) poems to Peter.
After each one, Peter excitedly says, "Good Job! Good job, Andrew!"
