Welcome Home, Peter!

Deo gratias! He's home!!! Thank you to everyone who offered special prayers and sent us messages of encouragement, support and love. Our family is deeply honored to know so many caring people. Your prayers for Peter [and those for our sanity!] helped us tremendously through a difficult week. We are all looking forward to making this ordeal a distant memory. May God bless you all for your support and generosity.

Peter Update...

Peter is declaring his own indepedence today. Since being admitted to the NICU, he has managed to remove himself from the ventilator, take out his IV and this morning took his feeding tube out by himself (can you tell he wants to come home?). He is now breathing entirely on his own and is no longer receiving suplemental oxygen, which means he is breathing room air. The doctors and nurses continue to see improvement and are very happy with his progress. He has developed a reputation in the NICU as one of the more fiesty babies (as his father, I have no idea where he gets a temper from... yes, you are detecting a bit of sarcasm there). Peter is eating well and is getting bottle-fed twice a day.

As to be expected, though, Peter is displaying a shade of yellow, so he is currently undergoing phototherapy for jaundice. We're not at all surprised by this. Please continue to pray for the little Peanut and his doctors and nurses. As parents, we're beyond worry now because we know everything will be fine. We're asking God for patience as we just want to bring him home. Enjoy the below pics.

Peter is Here!

On June 28, 2007, at 7:11 p.m., we welcomed into the world

PETER CHARLES LERNER

He is named in honor of St. Peter Prince of the Apostles, first Roman pontiff and brother of St. Andrew. The middle name was chosen in honor of Amy's maternal grandfather Charles, who was born on the same day in 1920.

Weighing in at 7 pounds, 9 ounces and 19 1/2 inches long, Peter promises to be a handful. Amy did everything NATURALLY!!!! I have already told Peter not to mess with his mother as she is pretty tough.

Thanks to everyone for their prayers for a safe delivery. Please keep them coming as the little guy is still trying to get fluid expunged from his lungs and he is currently in the NICU unit. Please check back here throughout the week for updates. We anticipate Peter coming home sometime in the middle of next week, God willing sooner.
